Hanging out with Ma Duke

My mother and I are extremely close...somehow over the years in my adulthood our roles have kinda reversed, Im the parent/advisor and she's the child/advisee-Don't trip though, she still Ma Duke when she wanna be and need to be. However, I've been rippin' and running for the pretty much the whole month of May and spoke with her maybe 3 or 4 times. I probably slept in my own bed about 10 days out of the entire month and she says wants to know when I'll be home for a stretch. I was suppose to see MM tonight but with the weather like it is it fell through. So it's Friday night I'm home alone watching the Redsox vs. Texas Rangers and Mom Duke calls...."Trevor, you home?" (Now my name ain't Trevor but she seems to enjoy calling me that from childhood). "Yes Mum I'm home" I say "why what's wrong?" She beings to tell me she wants to come over and talk to me and she might spend the night.

Now, I've live here for almost a year and I can count the times she's been at my place on one hand so hearing that she might spend the night kinda threw me back a lil bit. It was cool though making up a bed for my mother and preparing my daughter's room so she could spend the night. Glad to say that she was just a lil annoyed at her stupid ass husband and wanted to get away and see me and see all the improvements I've made over the last couple months. Her husband made like a custom-made TV shelf for my brand new 50' plasma since I didnt wanna hang it on the wall. Mom wanted to see how it came out. I'm grinning to myself as I look at her now looking at the TV....she seems so facinated, almost like a child, LOL...asking how the ambi-light comes outta the back of the TV like on the commercials. I chuckle as I think these are questions my daughter would be asking, LOL....

Speaking of my baby, we spend the entire night talking about my child's imenent arrival to stay with me for the summer, my plans, logistical issues about dropoff/pickup from summer camp, etc. We are both excited, no-strike that....all 3 of us including my daughter is excited. My yearly ritual of going to get her consists of a morning flight down to Florida, jumping in a rental and picking her up, stoping at IHOP then coming back to the airport dropping off the car then flying back home by mid-afternoon.

We had a really nice night together just catching up, eating, watching TV, etc. It's nice not to see someone no matter who they are just because of problems occuring or some major issue. We just hung out together as she looked all over like a nosey mom does to make sure her child is okay. I don't see her nearly often enough....I really do love my Mama!
